Agent Runtime implementation-readiness checklist¶
The first bounded workflow slice is approved and implemented. This checklist records the delivered scope and keeps optional policy, persistence, and security expansion explicitly gated. It is reviewed against ADR 0044 and the linked contracts.
Review outcome — 1 September 2026¶
The review confirms that the controlled tool foundation and bounded workflow slice are delivered. Policy and approval adapters, persistence, and broader security expansion remain deployment-owned follow-up work.
Delivered and documented¶
- [x] Explicit tool registration, immutable metadata, bounded execution, and informational discovery.
- [x] Execution-context inheritance and lifecycle event privacy boundaries.
- [x] Authorization, allow-list composition, and approval decision semantics.
- [x] Workflow states, deadlines, cancellation, shutdown, result aggregation, and error precedence.
Open implementation gates¶
- [x] Approve the first workflow orchestration scope and bounded fan-out model.
- [x] Review Agent Runtime first workflow scope.
- [x] Approve concrete policy and approval adapter interfaces.
- [ ] Define persistence requirements, if any, without making storage mandatory.
- [x] Add deterministic workflow and child-cancellation test fixtures.
- [x] Complete a security review of limits, side effects, and audit events.
Security review outcome¶
The bounded slice enforces maximum depth, child count, parallel fan-out, workflow and tool deadlines, and finite approval waits. Tools are explicitly registered and opt-in; no unrestricted code, filesystem, network, or hidden credential access is introduced. Workflow and authorization events contain only correlation, identity, tool, outcome, and stable reason metadata. Side effects remain owned by registered handlers and deployment policy. Durable state, replay, distributed coordination, and hosted authorization remain out of scope for this review.
Contract coverage¶
- [x] Tool registration, immutable metadata, discovery, and bounded execution match AGENT_RUNTIME.md.
- [x] Authorization, allow-list composition, and approval decisions match AGENT_RUNTIME_POLICY.md and AGENT_RUNTIME_APPROVAL.md.
- [x] Workflow states, deadlines, cancellation, and shutdown match AGENT_RUNTIME_WORKFLOWS.md.
- [x] Result aggregation and error precedence match AGENT_RUNTIME_RESULTS.md.
Safety and compatibility gates¶
- [x] No unrestricted code, filesystem, network, or credential access is added.
- [x] Existing capability, provider, request-correlation, and error APIs remain backward compatible.
- [x] Every new boundary has finite deadlines, bounded fan-out, and explicit cancellation cleanup.
- [x] Operational events exclude prompts, arguments, outputs, credentials, provider payloads, and exception text.
- [x] Policy and approval integrations remain opt-in and deployment-owned.
Validation gates¶
- [x] Deterministic unit and API tests cover happy paths and terminal-state precedence.
- [x] Real-process and streaming cancellation tests cover child cleanup.
- [x] Ruff, strict MyPy, Pytest, package, container, and Kubernetes validation pass.
- [x] Runtime docs and
